Xiaomi, known for involving itself in a bit of everything, has went further inroad for its EV venture: the company unveiled its new “Kunlun” platform and the first lineup to utilize the architecture – the Xiaomi SkyNomad Series. It consist of two extended-range SUV variants: the seven-seat Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max, a seven-seat flagship model, and the five-seat Xiaomi SkyNomad N70 Max.
Kunlun Underpins SkyNomad N90 Max & N70 Max
Xiaomi said the Kunlun platform was designed around cabin space first, using a highly integrated extended-range powertrain, revised rear suspension layout and thinner battery packaging to create a flat floor extending from the first row through the cargo area. As such, the N90 Max provides 2,760mm of total occupant space and up to 1,550mm of second-row legroom, with 1831L of maximum cargo capacity, or accommodate seven 20-inch suitcases while carrying seven passengers.
There’s no shortage of storage compartments inside – you’ll find 34 of such spaces throughout the car, plus a sliding center console with a 9-liter compressor refrigerator, 50W wireless charging, dual USB-C ports and accessory expansion points. The second and third rows feature long-travel sliding rails with up to 900mm of adjustment range. Xiaomi has also all but eliminated plastic touch surfaces inside, with up to 32m² surface area soft-wrapped for extra luxury points.
Xiaomi said the N90 Max uses a steel-aluminum hybrid body with 90.4% high-strength steel and aluminum content, along with 2,200 MPa ultra-high-strength steel in 16 critical structural areas. The vehicle is equipped with 12 airbags, including third-row side airbags and a full-length side curtain airbag system. As with EVs, battery protection is critical – the Xiaomi Armor Scale Battery system claims 18 layers of structural safety protection and a multi-layer thermal isolation design intended to prevent thermal runaway event in the event of a battery failure.
Onto the software-defined vehicle bit, the SkyNomad uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset for its software with dual 5G and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity. The system supports a head-up display (with 15,000 nits of brightness), six-screen cabin connectivity, a 25-speaker audio system, rear-seat control display and Xiaomi Hyper XiaoAi voice assistant integration. ADAS is powered by 700 TOPS of compute power from “onboard compute platform”, which is coupled with LiDAR, mmWave radar and anti-glare camera sensors; the N90 Max also adds a rear LiDAR unit designed to improve low-obstacle detection during parking maneuvers as well.
Powertrain-wise, the Kunlun HyperRange extended-range system uses battery packs ranging from 52 kWh to 76 kWh. Xiaomi claims the N70 Max achieves up to 505 km of CLTC electric-only range, while the N90 Max reaches 464 km. The N90 Max is also claimed to deliver up to 1,705 km of combined CLTC range when combined with the 1.5L range extender engine (not mechanically connected to the drivetrain) that generates 112kW/150hp when required.
The N90 Max uses a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing 310kW (210kW rear + 100kW front), paired with a double-wishbone front suspension, H-arm multi-link rear suspension, adjustable air springs and continuously variable damping. Xiaomi states that braking from 100 km/h to 0 km/h takes 38.57m and that the vehicle has a 5.95-meter turning radius, despite its large footprint stretching over 5.2 meters long.
The Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 Max has an official pre-sale price of RMB 299,900, while the Xiaomi SkyNomad N70 Max is priced at RMB 259,900 – as the pricing would suggest, the new SUVs are limited to its home market, China, with no immediate plans for a global launch at this time.
