Volkswagen Malaysia has officially unveiled the all-new Volkswagen Tayron seven-seater SUV, with the locally-assembled model offered in two variants, Elegance and R-Line. Safety is the highlight feature here, as VW boasts five-star Euro NCAP safety rating on this three-row model, plus Volkswagen’s IQ.DRIVE suite of safety systems as standard to further bolster its safety capabilities.

Among the two Tayron variants, the Elegance variant uses a 1.5-litre eTSI mild hybrid engine producing 150PS and 250Nm of torque, paired with a 48V belt-driven starter-alternator and cylinder deactivation feature to improve fuel efficiency. The sportier R-Line, meanwhile, uses a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged engine producing 265PS and 400Nm of torque, paired with a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. Both powertrains use a 7-speed DSG gearbox, plus suspensions featuring Dynamic Chassis Control Pro (DCC Pro).

Design-wise, the Elegance includes LED Plus headlights, 3D LED taillights, and Elegance-specific styling elements on the front and rear bumpers; the R-Line includes IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix headlights with glare-free high beam technology, 3D LED taillights with dynamic turn signals, and R-Line styling elements on the front, rear, and sides. Both variants feature an illuminated Volkswagen logo at the front and rear, and the Tayron is available in five colors: Nightshade Blue, Oyster Silver, Dolphin Grey, Oryx White, and Grenadilla Black.

Now available in showrooms, the Volkswagen Tayron Elegance is priced at RM189,890 (RM199,990 with Volkswagen Assurance Package which includes 5 years of free maintenance, warranty, and roadside assistance), while the R-Line is currently available for preview only, with an estimated price range of RM259,000 to RM269,000.

In conjunction with the upcoming 69th Merdeka celebrations, the first 69 Tayron owners will receive an introductory package including seven years of free maintenance, personal accident and car key coverage, and a chance to win a 3-day, 2-night holiday.

Pokdepinion: Seven years of free maintenance for the first 69 buyers is a genuinely solid incentive, though it does raise the question of what the other buyers get for paying the same price.
