WhatsApp Security Center Provides Users An Overview Of The App's Efforts On Security

In an effort to put more assurance towards users when it comes to data safety, WhatsApp has launched a new Security Center microsite that provides an overview on the mechanisms and protection systems that keeps the users safe from account hijacks, scams, spams and unwanted contacts.

WhatsApp puts emphasis on their end-to-end encryption systems that is available to everyone by default, and assures that no one, not even themselves, could look at what’s being exchanged between conversations. That said, they are giving a few important tips to help everyone stay safe in the digital world.

Within the microsite users can click to learn more on each of the ways to keep themselves safe from malicious actors – and that includes using two-step PIN verification to protect against hijacks, report and block messages that deemed malicious or suspicious, always use the official app, review data privacy options and more.

One of the more prominent feature is the new fact-checking feature: WhatsApp is aware of the spread of misinformation, especially through their app, occurring in many parts of the world – Malaysia is no exception. Users can verify the information with International Fact Checking Networks (IFCN) accounts on WhatsApp – though as of this writing there’s no local organizations included in the list of contacts available for fact-checking.

Pokdepinion: Everyone agrees fake news is a problem and a big one at that – here’s hoping a Malaysian organization can join the IFCN network to help combat this.
