Volkswagen Malaysia is introducing a new alloy wheel design for its Golf GTI available exclusively on 50 units of the hot hatchback, coinciding with the nameplate’s 50th anniversary since the Mk1 Golf GTI was introduced back in 1976.
New Limited-Edition Rims For VW Golf GTI
Impromptu history class: the VW Golf GTI began as a skunkworks project by a small group of eight engineers in the 1970s who aimed to build a sportier version of the Golf, which eventually became the forefather of the “hot hatch” segment. The Mk1 GTI was regarded as a massive success, with over 460,000 sold in this single generation alone; since then, eight generations of hot hatches has wore this nameplate to represent the best of spicy hatchbacks VW has to offer.
The new wheels, named Huntsville Adamantium Dark, feature an 18-inch 5-spoke design with a unique Y-spoke pattern – VW noted that the dark finish is designed to provide a clear view of the GTI’s red brake calipers. The upgrade will be offered as a complimentary feature and will not add to the Golf GTI’s recommended retail price, which stands at RM255,990. In line with the anniversary, Volkswagen Malaysia is hosting social media giveaways and activations at Volkswagen dealerships nationwide throughout the year to celebrate the occasion. It is also running a Test Drive and Win contest, in which customers who test drive any Volkswagen model by 12 July 2026 are entered into a draw for a limited edition GTI Touch ‘n Go card.
