Riot Games has outlined the full competitive structure for VCT Pacific 2027, introducing a more open, merit-based ecosystem that gives non-partnered and Premier teams a better shot at reaching global events. The format replaces Stage 1 and Stage 2 regional leagues with two “Cups” leading into Masters Valencia and Champions Austin, while retaining the Kickoff tournament that qualifies teams to Masters Seoul.

Three cities have been confirmed as hosts for the main events: Kickoff will take place in Bangkok, Thailand; Cup 1 in Manila, Philippines; and Cup 2 in Tokyo, Japan.
VCT Pacific 2027 Kickoff, Cups & Regional Slot Allocation
Kickoff and Cups form the top tier of VCT Pacific 2027, with 12 teams from across Asia Pacific competing in fully LAN events for qualification to global tournaments. Any Open team that qualifies for either Kickoff or a Cup will receive a fixed payout of US$100,000 per event, separate from the prize pool.

Six regions will have direct slots into Cups: Korea and Japan receive three slots each, while Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam receive one slot each. Southeast Asia (which includes Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines and more – excluding nations aforementioned) receives two slots, and the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) contributes one additional slot. South Asia and Oceania access Cups exclusively via the LCQ.
Kickoff remains a 12-team tournament in 2027, though the composition has changed from 10 partnered teams + 2 Ascension teams in the old system, to 8 partnered teams + 4 Open teams. It is the only event where partnered teams are guaranteed entry; everything beyond this point is free-for-all. Open teams must qualify through regional Open Qualifiers covering Korea, Japan, SEA, and a dedicated Kickoff LCQ. The top 3 finishers at Kickoff advance to Masters Seoul.

The path to Cups runs through regional Playoffs: teams begin at Open Qualifiers, which run multiple times per region, allowing unsuccessful teams to re-enter and try again. Qualifying through Open Qualifiers earns a spot in regional Playoffs either directly or through Play-ins. Play-ins determine seeding into the top four positions at regional Playoffs. If a team reaches Masters Seoul or Masters Valencia, they are automatically seeded into the top four of their next Playoff, reducing the number of spots available through Play-ins accordingly.
At Playoffs, eight teams per region compete for a Cup slot. Teams that reach Masters are seeded directly into their respective regional Playoffs, bypassing Open Qualifiers and Play-ins entirely. Qualifying for Cups also carries a fixed payment of US$100,000.

The Pacific LCQ takes place after regional Playoffs and features 8 teams: 2 from South Asia, 1 from Oceania, the 2nd seed from Vietnam Playoffs, and the 2nd and 3rd seeds from Thailand and Indonesia. The LCQ winner secures the final slot at each Cup. A separate Kickoff LCQ features 4 teams, including 2 from South Asia, 1 from Oceania, and the runner-up from the SEA Kickoff Playoffs.
New Roster Of Partnered Teams

Eight partner organizations from Asia Pacific have been confirmed for VCT Pacific 2027, and they include: T1 (South Korea), Gen.G (South Korea), Paper Rex (Singapore/SEA), Crazy Raccoon (Japan), Full Sense (Thailand), Rex Regum Qeon (Indonesia), Zeta Division (Japan), and a newly-established partner team in VCT, GAM Esports (Vietnam). While these teams receive an automatic Kickoff slot, that is the extent of their guaranteed entry – if a partnered team fails to qualify for Masters Seoul from Kickoff or Masters Valencia from the Manila Cup, they drop into Play-ins.
Poor Play-ins results push partnered teams into Open Qualifiers alongside every other team. Strong Play-ins results, however, earn a higher bracket seed at regional Playoffs. Any team, partnered or not, that reaches Masters Seoul or Masters Valencia is placed directly into the following regional Playoffs without needing to go through Open Qualifiers or Play-ins. Details for regional Kickoff Open Qualifiers will be announced soon, with the 2027 Kickoff Qualifiers set to begin before the end of the year.
Pokdepinion: One thing is for sure: this will be hectic.
