Ever heard of the term undervolting? Well, every processor leaves the factory with a preset voltage that allows it to run stably. However most processors have a little leeway that allow you to run it at a voltage lower than stock. Lower voltage leads to less heat, and less heat is always a good thing. In today’s video, we undervolted our ROG Strix SCAR II, which we also repasted previously.

The software we used was Intel Extreme Tuning Utility. While the Extreme in the name might sound fancy, we are only going to use it to adjust the voltage on the ROG Strix SCAR II. You can download it here.

Optimizing your undervolt will take a bit of effort, as it is a trial and error thing. You might even be unable to get any lower before your system becomes unstable. It’s silicon lottery, just like overclocking, with the same goals, but without the risk of frying your hardware or increasing thermals. As you can see in our video, we actually managed to squeeze more performance out of the ROG Strix SCAR II. Maximum temperatures dropped by 3°C and we got 200 MHz higher average clocks!

You don’t need to void the warranty, you get cooler temperatures, and you get better performance on top of that. It’s an absolute win for us. Have you undervolted your laptop or desktop PC before? Let us know in the comments section!
