PROTON has officially launched the Proton e.MAS 7, marking its entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market, as well as the first-ever EV made by local carmakers. The event was officiated by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, along with the attendance of Deputy PM Fadillah Yusof, Transport Minister Anthony Loke, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, and others.

As part of the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, Geely (part-owner of Proton) and Proton teamed up and dedicated over 700,000 hours to the e.MAS 7 project, conducting 100,000 km of testing under varied conditions across Malaysia to ensure the vehicle’s performance and reliability.

The Proton e.MAS 7 is available in Prime and Premium variants, powered by a 12-in-1 intelligent electric propulsion system and built on the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform. The vehicle incorporates Cell-to-Body (CTB) battery technology and a new generation of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, offering a 49.52kWh battery with a WLTP range of 345km for Prime variant, while the Premium variant features a 60.22kWh battery, extending the range to 410km. Both variants support DC fast charging, enabling a 30 to 80% charge in 20 minutes and recovering up to 135km of range in 10 minutes.




Performance-wise, the Proton e.MAS 7 delivers 160kW and 320Nm of torque, achieving 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.9 seconds. Safety features include Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (L2-ADAS), a 360-degree camera, and a 5-Star ASEAN NCAP rating. The interior, meanwhile, features ventilated seats, 33 storage compartments, and a 15.4-inch touchscreen display with integrated charging maps; additional amenities include a 16-speaker Flyme Sound system and 256-colour ambient lighting.
PRO-NET has partnered with leading charge point operators to expand charging infrastructure, with over 1,700 charging points available nationwide. The company has also appointed 37 dealers, with 30 set to be fully operational by the end of 2024.
Moving forward, PRO-NET plans to export the Proton e.MAS 7 to international markets, including Singapore, Trinidad & Tobago, Mauritius, and Nepal, starting in 2025. The Proton e.MAS 7 is priced from RM109,800 (without insurance), with special launch rebate of RM4,000 and incentives worth up to RM8,000 available only to first 3,000 customers.
