Great Wall Motor (GWM) Malaysia is making waves at the 2024 Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) with the debut of the Wey 80 MPV. This seven-seater luxury vehicle, showcased under GWM’s premium sub-brand Wey, offers a tantalizing glimpse into the future of upscale family mobility.
The Wey 80 MPV, currently in left-hand drive (LHD) configuration, is presented as a preview model. The unit displayed at KLIMS differs from the long-wheelbase version recently showcased at the Thai International Motor Expo, appearing in its standard wheelbase form.

While a right-hand drive (RHD) version isn’t available yet, GWM could potentially adapt the Wey 80 for regional markets within the next year. If it enters the market, this three-row MPV will join a growing competitive field that includes contenders like the Denza D9 and GAC M8, both of which are gaining traction in the segment.
The GWM Wey 80 measures 5,045 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,900 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,085 mm, providing ample space for passengers and cargo.
Under the hood, the GWM Wey 80 is powered by a Hi4 plug-in hybrid system that combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine (154 hp/156 PS) with two electric motors—a 174 hp (177 PS) front unit and a 181 hp (183 PS) rear unit. Together, they deliver a remarkable 480 hp (487 PS) and 762 Nm of torque.
A 37.96 kWh ternary lithium battery enables up to 140 km of electric-only range (CLTC), making the Wey 80 an eco-conscious choice for luxury mobility.
Step inside the GWM Wey 80, and you’re greeted by a plush interior designed for ultimate comfort. Highlights include:
- Quilted Leather and Zero-Gravity Seats: Providing unparalleled luxury, with second-row captain chairs equipped with foldable tables.
- Flexible Seating Configurations: A shared rail design allows the second and third rows to slide up to 1,845 mm, creating an impressive 1,166 mm of legroom for second-row passengers.
- Split Butterfly Seats: The third row features a 4/6 split-folding design for easier luggage arrangements.
The MPV also boasts a 1,600-watt Harman Kardon surround sound system with 16 speakers (compared to 20 speakers in the Thai LWB version) and a 12.5-liter fridge with adjustable temperatures (0-50°C), capable of holding up to 14 cans.
Adding to the luxury is a dedicated air fragrance system with three customizable themes. Notably, the KLIMS display vehicle features a sunroof, absent in the Thai show unit.
The Wey 80 MPV at KLIMS 2024 demonstrates GWM’s commitment to blending luxury with cutting-edge technology, setting a high bar for the future of MPVs. Visitors at KLIMS can experience this innovative vehicle alongside a lineup of other groundbreaking automotive technologies.
Catch the Wey 80 and other exciting vehicles at KLIMS 2024, open to the public from December 5 to December 11 at MITEC, Kuala Lumpur.
Pokdepinion: I’m honestly amazed at how much they managed to pack inside this SUV. It certainly feels a lot more premium inside but the color is a bit too bright for my liking.
