Sony has introduced the ECM-L1, it’s latest lavalier microphone that supports 3.5mm plug-in power. According to the company, his new product builds on its ECM-77 series, which it says is widely used by professionals in broadcasting and production.
Sony ECM-L1
The ECM-L1’s pin design allows it to be worn inconspicuously on clothing, meaning it won’t be sticking out for recordings in professional environments – think interviews, documentaries, livestreaming, and more. The microphone’s construction includes a rigid ceramic electrode plate and a brass exterior to minimize external resonance; additionally, the oxygen-free copper cable reduces transmission loss to retain sound quality.
Durability is a key feature, with a brass housing protecting the microphone and a 2.2mm diameter cable designed to resist breakage; a locking ring at the connector ensures secure attachment during recording sessions. The microphone also includes two windscreens – metal and faux fur – to reduce wind and pop noise based on different recording conditions.
Since it runs on 3.5mm plug-in power, no discrete power connections are required – users can simply connect to any 3.5mm input connectors and get up and running instantly.
Sony says the ECM-L1 will be available in Malaysia starting October 2024, with pricing unannounced so far.
