Sony announced the launch of the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS, positioned as a super-telephoto zoom lens designed for 35mm full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras. The lens covers a focal range of 100mm to 400mm and weighs approximately 654 grams.

According to Sony, the FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS telephoto lens uses an optical design featuring two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass elements and two aspherical elements, intended to reduce chromatic and other aberrations and maintain image clarity across the zoom range.
The lens includes a nine-blade circular aperture intended to produce a soft background blur, along with a minimum focusing distance of 0.86m at the telephoto end and 1.13m at the wide end, supporting a maximum magnification of 0.41x for close-up photography. When paired with an optional teleconverter, the lens can extend to a focal length of up to 800mm, or up to 1,200mm when used in APS-C mode.
Inside the lens is a linear motor drive that allow fast and quiet autofocus performance for moving subjects; when paired with the Alpha 9 III camera body, the lens supports continuous shooting with autofocus and auto-exposure tracking at up to approximately 120 frames per second. Built-in OIS is included for handheld shooting, and the lens supports the camera body’s Active Mode stabilization and coordinated image stabilization modes. It also supports breathing compensation as well.
The lens includes a customisable focus hold button, a focus mode and range switch, and a zoom lock switch. It features a dust and moisture resistant design, and is supplied with a lens hood intended to reduce flare and ghosting.
The Sony FE 100-400mm F5.6-8 OSS will be available in Malaysia from mid-August 2026, with a recommended retail price of RM3,499.
