Sony has introduced two new external controllers, the RM-DP7 and RM-DP5, designed to integrate camera control and monitoring functions for use with its Cinema Line range of cameras. At launch, both controllers are compatible with the FX5, FX3, FX2 and FX30 cameras.

The controllers are designed to allow users to check and adjust camera settings while positioned away from the camera itself, making it ideal for solo operators and small production teams during shoots. When paired with select compatible transmitters, the controllers can also support wireless connectivity.

Both the RM-DP7 and RM-DP5 feature a “BIG6” home screen, allowing users to adjust focus when used with compatible autofocus lenses, zoom when paired with compatible power zoom lenses, along with exposure and other key camera settings from the monitor side, even when not positioned directly at the camera. In addition to touch operation, the controllers include a control knob, multi-function dials and assignable buttons, for quick access to frequently used functions during shoots.
Each unit is individually calibrated at the factory using Sony’s professional video monitor-grade color calibration technology, which continuously compensates for chromaticity and color temperature drift during use, aimed at maintaining color accuracy in the field. The controllers feature a high-brightness Full HD panel rated at up to 2,000 cd/m² brightness, along with support for six presets and up to 16 LUTs to help users preview footage closer to its intended final look.
Both controllers support HDMI input and output, along with wireless connectivity through select compatible third-party transmitters, allowing flexibility based on camera placement and rig configuration. The RM-DP7 additionally supports 12G-SDI connectivity, along with bidirectional conversion between SDI and HDMI connections. They also feature dust and moisture resistance for use in outdoor production settings; multiple power options is offered, including Sony’s BP-U series batteries, USB Power Delivery and DC input, providing production teams with greater flexibility.
Sony says pricing and availability information for the controllers can be obtained through its authorized dealers nationwide.
