Sony’s RX10 all-in-one camera series is welcoming its fifth-generation model with the introduction of RX10 V, which has been almost a decade since this lineup was last updated. Sony’s latest camera equivalent of a Swiss army knife comes equipped with a ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-600mm F2.4-4.0 lens with 25x optical zoom, which offers a huge range of flexibility that very few cameras can match.

One new feature RX10 V introduces is AI-powered Real-time Recognition AF carried from Sony’s Alpha series of cameras, with an onboard AI processor that recognizes humans, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes, with an Auto mode that identifies the subject type automatically. For humans specifically, the feature also has “pose estimation” for cases when subjects have their backs to the camera or their faces obscured.

The camera performs 60fps AF/AE calculations and supports blackout-free continuous burst shooting at up to 30 fps with full AF/AE tracking, alongside a Continuous Shooting Speed Boost function that allows burst speed to be adjusted during shooting. The sensor is a “1.0-type” stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor with approximately 20.1 effective megapixels and the BIONZ XR image processing engine, which the company said reduces noise at mid-to-high ISO sensitivities. 12 Creative Look presets comes included, plus an updated D-Range Optimizer with settings up to Lv8.

For video, the Sony RX10 V supports 4K 120fps video recording, alongside Active Mode image stabilization for handheld recording. A Multi Interface Shoe with digital audio interface support enables audio recording with compatible microphones, while an Auto Framing function keeps subjects centered during recording using AI-powered subject recognition. Additional video features include S-Cinetone for color and tone processing, S-Log3 for post-production grading, support for up to 16 user LUTs, time-lapse shooting, and still image extraction through Shot Mark.

The camera includes a 0.5-type Quad-VGA OLED electronic viewfinder with approximately 3.68 million dots and 0.78x magnification, along with a 3.0-type LCD monitor upgraded to approximately 1.62 million dots. The button layout and grip design is also inherited from Alpha cameras, plus an eight-direction multi-selector for controls.

RX10 V uses Sony’s NP-FZ100 rechargeable battery, which now allows still image shooting to approximately 630 shots per full charge (50% more than the previous model). The camera features a dust and moisture resistant design, Wi-Fi support, and USB Type-C connectivity for data transfer and 4K 30p live streaming. The camera also supports Sony’s Creators’ App, allowing users to send files to the cloud or smartphone and control the camera remotely.

The Sony RX10 V is available for pre-order in Malaysia starting today at an SRP of RM8,999. The pre-order package includes an NP-FZ100 battery and a PGYTECH OneGo Lite Backpack (22L) in Matte Black.
