Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 promises improved experiences in entry-level laptops!
Qualcomm has just announced the new Snapdragon 7c Gen 2, which is a slightly enhanced edition of the Snapdragon 7c to deliver better performance, efficiency and features than the competition in the entry-level laptop market.
For the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2, we see the Kryo 468 cores clocked higher at up to 2.55GHz for the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2, versus 2.4GHz in the Snapdragon 7c. Aside from the slightly faster Cortex-A76-based cores, the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 is identical to the Snapdragon 7c, with the same Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, Spectra 255 ISP and Adreno 618 graphics.
However while it is quite fast, performance isn’t really the main focus of this chipset. Qualcomm is clearly targeting the entry-level market with the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2. As such, capabilities like multi-day battery life and the LTE connectivity are the main highlights here, especially when compared against the competition which are unable to deliver a similar experience in the same price segment.
The ISP and audio processing chops enabled by the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 are also quite heavily highlighted, as they are extremely important for a good user experience during the current work-from-home situation.
Qualcomm expects laptops featuring the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 to arrive in markets starting this summer, which starts late next month. To improve adoption of Snapdragon chips and its features in Windows 10 PCs, Qualcomm also announced the Snapdragon Developer Kit which will be available in summer too.
Pokdepinion: I wonder how many laptop makers will pick up the Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 for their budget models.
