ASUS ZenFone 7 series launched with flip camera and 90Hz OLED display for ~RM3122
ASUS has finally taken the wraps off their ASUS ZenFone 7, which sees some rather major upgrades over the ASUS ZenFone 6. Some things are retained like the truly bezel-less display, flip cam design and the humongous 5000mAh battery are retained, but that’s about it. There are plenty of changes to make the ASUS ZenFone 7 relevant against this year’s crop of flagship smartphones.
For starters, ASUS is now using the Snapdragon 865 in the the standard ASUS ZenFone 7, while the ASUS ZenFone 7 Pro gets the Snapdragon 865+. This is paired up with 6GB or 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage in the ZenFone 7, while the ZenFone 7 Pro gets 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. There’s still support for microSD cards, so while 128GB might not seem like a lot, you can always add more storage.
ASUS also upgraded the camera, and this is the other area which sees a difference between the ASUS ZenFone 7 and its Pro brethren. The ASUS ZenFone 7 and ASUS ZenFone 7 Pro both pack a 64MP Sony IMX686 main camera, 12MP Sony IMX363 ultra-wide angle camera and an 8MP 3x telephoto camera. The difference between the duo is the availability of OIS: the ASUS ZenFone 7 Pro gets OIS for its main camera and zoom camera, while the ASUS ZenFone 7 gets none.
The mechanism is also upgraded with a smoother, simpler yet more powerful stepper motor. ASUS also integrated a new angle sensor for more accurate angle detection. Thanks to the use of the ingenious flipping camera mechanism, the ASUS ZenFone 7 once again gets away without a notch, punch hole or bezels around its screen. The display has been upgraded to a 6.67″ 90Hz OLED panel, which should look much better than last year’s LCD-equipped ZenFone 6. Sadly the headphone jack has been removed from the ASUS ZenFone 7, which appears to be a trend for ASUS smartphones, starting with the ROG Phone 3.

Appearance wise, both devices appear to look exactly the same. The ASUS ZenFone 7 and ZenFone 7 Pro are currently only available in Taiwan, with global availability set to commence on 1st September. They mentioned selected European markets, so don’t hold your breath in regards to its local availability.
Pokdepinion: It’s a bit pricier than the ASUS ZenFone 6, but the flippy cam does seem like the perfect thing for selfie aficionados.
