Most foldable smartphones today has been associated with terms like ‘bulky’, as it occupies almost twice the thickness of a regular smartphone (when folded) in exchange for the folding capability. HONOR has bucked that trend, however, with its Magic V2 foldable that measures just 9.9mm when folded (and 4.7mm when opened). Now, the company is pushing that limit even further.
HONOR Magic V3 “Will Raise The Bar Once Again”

The heading you see right above is what HONOR has said in its teaser for its upcoming foldable, which was published on Weibo last week. To be more specific, the Chinese text on the second image reads: “HONOR Magic V3 set to challenge the new heights of foldable lightness and thinness”.
To give you some context, 9.9mm is not much thicker than most smartphones today, which generally hover in between the 7-9mm range depending on each make and model. That is mostly indistinguishable especially if you add a phone case to a regular smartphone, so trimming the thickness further may give the Magic V3 more reasons to replace a candy bar form factor smartphone as one of the major hurdles of this foldable form factor is removed.
Now, you’d imagine given its razor-thin profile, surely the battery life suffers, right? As our review of the Magic V2 has proved, it’s plenty solid compared to its contemporary competitors as it packs denser batteries onboard. This is another part of the foldable equation that HONOR has gained significant mastery on, so it’ll be interesting to see any further improvements has been made on this front while keeping the profile even thinner than its predecessor.
While no date has been announced so far, it’s likely that Magic V3 will first be launched in China, just like Magic V2 did; while global market may get the foldable at a later date.
