At the end of June, AMD is finally bringing a new Radeon driver release with a big update: the Anti-Lag is officially back under a new name, Anti-Lag 2. Aside from that, five more games now support AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.1 upscaling technology.

Anti-Lag 2 Does What Anti-Lag+ Couldn’t

The new Anti-Lag 2 feature has been a long time coming since its original form caused some games to trigger anti-cheat, notably Counter-Strike 2. The original implementation involved a game-agnostic approach that injects code into game to cut down input latency; however, this is similar to how cheat software works, and has caused players running on Radeon GPUs to get banned by accident. Shortly after, AMD pulled the feature and has disabled it through subsequent Adrenalin driver updates.

Since then, the feature has been reworked into Anti-Lag 2 that we see today. The updated version was first previewed in Adrenalin 24.5.1 technical preview driver on Counter-Strike 2, and thankfully, no VAC bans were triggered this time around. When activated, this enables an average of 37% input latency reduction over native rendering. Of course, the trade-off is that Anti-Lag 2 now requires developer support instead of a driver-level solution, which means Team Red now has a big hill to climb to get close to the number of games supporting NVIDIA Reflex today.

The good news is, while the original Anti-Lag+ implementation requires Radeon RX 7000 series GPUs, the new Anti-Lag 2 has widened the compatibility support to include all RDNA-based GPUs, including Radeon RX 5000 series and AMD Ryzen 6000 series APUs. Note that certain Ryzen 7000 series APUs, such as Ryzen 7020/7030, will not get this feature as their iGPUs runs on older GCN/Vega architecture.

In other news, AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution 3.1 upscaling technology now includes five more games, and they are Ghost of Tsushima DIRECTOR’S CUTHorizon Forbidden West Complete Edition, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. Additionally, FSR 3.1 is also coming to God of War: Ragnarök at a later date.

AMD also announces that FSR 3.1 SDK (software development kit) will be coming to GPUOpen in July 2024, and developers are free to implement this feature into their games. The company has also provided a comparison between the two FSR versions (FSR 3.1 vs FSR 2.2) via this clip:

Pokdepinion: Catching up to NVIDIA’s huge roster of Reflex games with Anti-Lag 2 will be very difficult, to say the least. That’s why Anti-Lag+ was originally designed to be game-agnostic, but it backfired.
