Leaked iPhone 16 and 16 Plus Cases Further Cements Camera Design Change
Recently, leaked cases for the iPhone 16 Pro unveiled a new Capture button, and now, non-Pro models join the spotlight with similar leaks. The latest case leak hints at the design shift for the vanilla models, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.

These leaks confirm the speculated redesign of the camera island for the upcoming iPhone models. Unlike previous iterations, the sensors will no longer be arranged diagonally within a squircle-shaped module.
Instead, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus will feature a vertical camera bump, with the two sensors stacked one below the other. The LED flash array will be positioned centrally to the right of this bump. Notably, the latest prototypes showcase two separate rings for the cameras, set within a pill-shaped raised surface.
This design change seems to draw inspiration from the layout of the iPhone X. However, the primary goal behind this rearrangement is to enable spatial video recording support in the upcoming handsets. Additionally, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are rumored to inherit the Action Button from the iPhone 15 Pro, along with a pressure-sensitive Capture button expected in the iPhone 16 Pro.
As the iPhone design cycle is still in its early stages, there’s a possibility of further alterations before the anticipated September launch. Keep an eye out for more updates as we approach the release date.
Pokdepinion: I really like the exiting camera layout but I suppose this is a necessary move to facilitate spatial recording. Let’s hope it is something worth using rather than a simple gimmick that will grow stale in a short span of time. The capture button on the other hand will only be a positive addition that I hope stays for a long time.
