Remember when the original Samsung Galaxy Note was ridiculed for its immensely huge proportions? The nubia Neo 5 Max is not quite that, but perhaps even bigger, into the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 / Huawei Mate 20 X territory with its 7.5-inch display that almost disqualifies this thing from being a smartphone. The ZTE sub-brand seems to understand that, too, designating it as a “PadPhone”.
The nubia Neo 5 Max Is Almost Too Big For A Smartphone
The nubia Neo 5 Max has a giant 7.5-inch 18.7:9 AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate and 1,000 nits peak brightness; we should note that while the diagonal size has been inflated since tall aspect ratios were adopted circa late 2010s, the raw dimensions of the smartphone – at 180.9 x 88.44 x 7.5mm – makes it basically as big as the aforementioned Galaxy Mega (at 167 x 88 x 8mm), but taller. (It’s bigger than the Mate 20 X in both axes, too.) nubia says this gigantic screen is 27% larger in area when compared to the standard Neo 5.

With a screen this big, the smartphone maker has provided this model with several extra duties: there’s the Mini-TV Mode when coupled with the protective case stand, a Reader Mode designed to resemble an e-ink display, a Console Mode for connecting to larger screens, a Streaming Mode for low-latency casting, and the Floating Window and Split-Screen functionality which basically is what you get in most smartphones.
Similarly, the big chassis offers plenty of space to fit its cooling hardware – more than 30,000mm² of dissipation surface, specficially, which nubia states is 50% larger than competing devices. The system includes a Dual-Layer Capillary Vapor Chamber and a 3D Raised VC Panel, with the company claiming the Neo 5 Max maintaining a peak temperature of 38.4°C during 60-minute Mobile Legends: Bang Bang sessions at 90 FPS. The battery capacity is relatively modest at its size (7,000mAh), with 45W fast charging support.
The nubia Neo 5 Max is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset with an octa-core processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage. The smartphone is otherwise carrying over most of the features as-is from the regular model, including dual symmetric speakers with Dolby Atmos support, a Z-Axis Linear Motor, Neo Triggers 5.0 shoulder triggers, NeoTap Esports Touch Algorithm, Magic Touch 3.0, high-precision gyroscope, Demi AI Copilot 2.0, AI Game Space, and more.

The nubia Neo 5 Max is now available in Malaysia in Shadow Black and Cyber Silver colorways – the 8GB+256GB configuration is priced at RM1,399, while an 8GB+512GB configuration is set to follow next month. You can find the smartphone through Shopee, Lazada, and TikTok Shop, as well as official offline outlets and authorized retailers.
