Xiaomi recently announced the new Xiaomi 12S Series, which was co-engineered with Leica. This imaging product line is the first product of Xiaomi and Leica’s Strategic Partnership in Imaging Technology. The complete series includes several imaging solutions co-developed by both companies.
The Leica Summicron lenses and support for Leica imaging profiles, all of which seek to allow individual artists to express their creativity while maintaining the true aesthetic of Leica pictures. Unfortunately, the company will only retail the Xiaomi 12S Series in Mainland China.
The 12S Ultra features two Xiaomi Surge chips, the Surge P1 fast-charging chipset, and the Surge G1 battery management chipset, which provide significant improvements in battery management and overall user experience.
The 12S Ultra supports wired fast charging at 67W, wireless fast charging at 50W, and reverse wireless charging at 10W. A 4,860mAh single-cell silicon-oxygen anode battery and the Surge P1 fast-charging processor are at the heart of the Surge Battery Management System.
Surge P1 fast-charging chipset, 120W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and a 4,600mAh single-cell battery power the 12S Pro, whereas the 12S has 67W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and a 4,500mAh battery.

The 12S Series features Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 Mobile Platform developed on the TSMC 4nm technology. Furthermore, the 12S Ultra and 12S Pro both include a 6.73″ AMOLED colour display with E5 luminescent material, which provides a professional level of detail, brightness, and colour performance, as well as a peak brightness of 1500 nits, 2K resolution, P3 colour gamut, and 1-120Hz AdaptiveSync Pro. The 12S is somewhat smaller at 6.28″ and features a P3 colour gamut display, HDR10+, and 120Hz AdaptiveSync.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra features a Sony IMX989 1″ sensor with a Quad-Bayer pixel array and individual pixel size up to 1.6m. This increases to 3.2m after pixel binning, lowering noise, expanding dynamic range, boosting light collected, and delivering overall superior images in low-light circumstances.
The Xiaomi 12S Ultra is the first Android handset that can record and play Dolby Vision HDR video. For ultra-stable performance, the 12S Ultra utilizes HyperOIS, which provides continuous adjustment for movement during video recording. The gap between two frames is used by HyperOIS to move the OIS motor back to its original position, giving each frame a full effective range of stabilisation.
The 12S Ultra is the first Android handset that can record and play Dolby Vision HDR video. Dolby Vision improves the visual quality of your films by adding brilliant colours, a better contrast ratio, and deeper details.
