Redmi Note 9 Series officially available in Malaysia from RM649

Xiaomi Malaysia has finally launched the two new members of the Redmi Note 9 family here in Malaysia, the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro. As expected, they will flesh out the Redmi Note 9 series in Malaysia by flanking the Redmi Note 9S in terms of pricing, serving up excellent options across a wider price range.

In terms of features, you are getting a pretty similar feature set across the board. Quad camera configurations, punch hole displays, or what Xiaomi calls DotDisplay, large 5020 mAh batteries and of course, affordable prices. There are a number of differences in the specifications, as you can see in the breakdown below:

Redmi Note 9

If you are looking for a more affordable smartphone, the Redmi Note 9 serves up a slower Helio G85 chipset along with a smaller 6.53″ display with its selfie camera sitting in the corner of the display, instead of in the center like the Redmi Note 9S and Note 9 Pro. It is also the only member of the Redmi Note 9 family to offer a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, which should please those who prefer a more conventional user experience.

You sacrifice a bit on the photography front too, with the macro camera dropped down to 2MP and the selfie camera packing just a 13MP sensor. You also don’t get as much RAM even on the top configuration, which might affect the fluidity of the overall experience.

Redmi Note 9 Pro

Firstly, it’s worth mentioning that the global Redmi Note 9 Pro is not the same as the Redmi Note 9 Pro launched in India. The Redmi Note 9 Pro in India is the Redmi Note 9S that was launched globally. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max in India is the global Redmi Note 9 Pro. Confused? Well, I won’t blame you.

With that out of the way, the Redmi Note 9S sits in between the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro, with a mix of features that it shares with both the Redmi Note 9 and Redmi Note 9 Pro. It goes without saying that the Redmi Note 9 Pro offers a better feature set, including a 64MP f/1.89 camera and 30W charging, albeit for a bit more moolah. If the Redmi Note 8 Pro’s camera performance is anything to go by, the Redmi Note 9 Pro will offer a much better photography experience though.

Pokdepinion: The Redmi Note 9 looks like a pretty interesting mid-range offering in the budget segment, but for a bit more money the Redmi Note 9S seems like the better choice…
