Redmi will debut the first MediaTek Dimensity 800 smartphone
The MediaTek Dimensity 800 was announced back in CES 2020 as MediaTek’s mid-range 5G chipset, slotting in below the Dimensity 1000. On paper, it looks like it will be competing against the Snapdragon 765 or 765G, so it is quite a beefy chipset. And the popular leakster “Digital Chat Station” (数码闲聊站) has just posted that Redmi will be the first to use the Dimensity 800.
The post does not go on in further detail, like which model will tout the Dimensity 800. Will it be a member of their premium Redmi K-series or will it be one of the upcoming Redmi Note devices? The timing does hint at the Redmi Note series though, but prior leaks have hinted at the Redmi Note 9 Pro featuring a Snapdragon 720G. Then there’s also the fact that the mid-range Redmi K30 5G already packs the Snapdragon 765G, so it would be a stretch for Redmi to slot in another 5G mid-range device in the Redmi K30 series.
The Dimensity 800 packs a number of features that would make it relevant in today’s upper-mid-range smartphones as it comes with support for 64MP cameras, FHD+ displays up to 90 Hz as well as 5G sub-6.
Will we see a Redmi Note 9 Pro+ that will come with the Dimensity 800? Or maybe a Redmi Note 9 5G would probably be more in line with Redmi’s naming convention.
Pokdepinion: A Redmi Note device with 5G would really mean 5G is becoming mainstream, which is excellent news!
