Samsung Rumoured To Include 4 Years Of Android OS Updates For Future Devices
It seems that Samsung will be extending the length of OS and security updates for its devices, according to a leak online that is.
Four years of OS updates for future Samsung devices?
This leak comes from serial leaker Evan Blass in his Leakmail newsletter. According to the leak, Samsung will be providing four years worth of Android OS updates as well as five years worth of security updates for select models of Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets. This is opposed to the three years worth of Android OS updates and four years worth of security updates currently offered to their flagship and mid-range devices.
Some of the devices mentioned in the leak include the upcoming Galaxy S22 Series, the Tab S8 Series, the Z Fold3, the Z Flip3, and the S21 Series including the recently released Galaxy S21 FE. This means that these devices will still receive updates well into 2026 with Android 16.
At the moment this is all just rumours so best take it with a pinch of salt. If it is true, Samsung will have set a high bar for other Android smartphone manufacturers to follow.
Pokdepinion: If this is indeed true then this is a really huge deal because the current support period is impressive enough. Here’s hoping other brands will follow suit.
