Samsung To Rebrand Exynos As “Dream Chip”, Leak Alleges
Samsung’s in-house system-on-a-chip (SoC) has used the Exynos branding for over a decade by now, and over these years the brand has seen small victories but mostly defeats in its competition against Qualcomm’s more popular flagship SoC.
For many years, people have associated Exynos with slower performance, higher power usage and battery drain – and while the company is making its best efforts to mount a comeback (and has even called AMD for help), it looks like the brand is beyond repair in the eyes of the Korean electronics giant, if the leak holds ground. The leaker @OreXda claimed that Exynos will be no more – and in its place is the new “Dream Chip” moniker.
Goodbye Exynos.

I’ll let you decide if the name is perhaps a bit corny, but in any case – the model number should follow the industry-wide convention in naming something like processors. Name changes are a fairly common marketing tactic to let the public “forget” its past (which is often negative), so Samsung likely intends to start afresh with the new branding in hopes of attracting more smartphone makers to use their future SoCs.
