Sony Introduces XPERIA 5 V, Packs Latest Exmor T Sensor

Sony today formally unveils the new Xperia 5 V, which also gets the new Exmor T camera sensor first debuted in the new Xperia 1 V. The new model loses third lens on the rear, which is compensated with the bigger sensor.

The new rear-facing dual-camera system consists of a primary 52MP (48MP effective), 1/1.35″ Exmor T, F1.9 wide lens with 24mm and 48mm equivalent focal length (zoom), whereas a secondary 16mm camera (12MP, 1/2.5″ Exmor RS, F2.2),  is responsible for ultra-wide duty. The front-facing camera is another 12MP shooter with smaller 1/2.9″ Exmor RS sensor.

Elsewhere, the smartphone features 6.1-inch 21:9 FHD+ 120Hz OLED display, the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. As with tradition, the venerable 3.5mm headphone jack stays on, and the display remains notch-free. The 5,000mAh battery can last beyond a full day, Sony claims – thanks to 20% reduced power consumption. That said, fast charging enables 50% capacity at 30 minutes, and the battery lifespan is expected to retain 80% of the original capacity after 3 years of usage.

For Malaysian markets, the Sony Xperia 5 V will only be available in Black at launch – set to launch in Q4 2023. No pricing has been announced at this moment.

Pokdepinion: Cameras getting larger physically seems inevitable, but all things considered this one is quite small when you look at the camera bump of most phones.
