Sony Xperia 1 IV Unveiled As World’s First Smartphone with True Optical Zoom Lens
Sony Xperia 1 IV Unveiled
Sony has officially unveiled their newest flagship device, the Sony Xperia 1 IV. Apart from the usual boost in performance as one would expect from a successor, it features a “world’s first true optical 85-125mm zoom lens”, which makes it quite an interesting smartphone for avid mobile photographers and videographers.
To start things off, the Sony Xperia 1 IV uses a 6.5-inch 120HZ Bravia HDR OLED display with 240Hz motion blur, touch sampling rate, and its signature CinemaWide 21:9 aspect ratio. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, that makes use of Snapdragon Elite Gaming for a performance boost, alongside a “heat suppression power control” to avoid thermal throttling.
What makes the Sony Xperia 1 IV interesting is the camera system as it consists of a 16mm shooter, a 24mm shooter, the aforementioned telephoto camera with true optical zoom lens, and a time-of-flight sensor. All of the cameras use the 12MP Exmor RS sensor with 120FPS readout speeds, allowing you to capture true 4K 120FPS video recordings or an equivalent 5x slow motion in 4K.
All of the cameras also make use of Zeiss Optics with Zeiss T* coating for improved contrast, sharpness, and reduced reflections. What makes this an even more enticing offer is its ability to livestream, as the Videography Pro app lets you stream directly from it and overlay the chat on the display. Moreover, Sony is also releasing accessories designed to make IRL streams more convenient with it.

In case you were wondering, it’s available in the US sometime in September 2022 with a retail price of USD $1,599, so be prepared to stomach the cost if you’re interested in getting one for yourself.
Pokdepinion: I am actually tempted to get one myself, mostly for work, but perhaps I’ll take it out for a spin and review it first before I do that. It does sound promising but I’m more concerned about battery life and its heat output.
