In a much-anticipated announcement, Xiaomi has officially introduced the all-new Xiaomi 14 series, setting the stage for a groundbreaking era in smartphone technology. This latest release boasts an array of exciting features, including the freshly announced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, a revamped Leica-branded main camera, an innovative design, and the introduction of Xiaomi’s cutting-edge HyperOS. Let’s delve into the details of this remarkable smartphone lineup.

Xiaomi 14 Pro

The Xiaomi 14 Pro makes a striking departure from its predecessor with a sleek and symmetrical design. Unlike its curved-edged forerunner, this smartphone flaunts a flat metal frame with a glossy mirrored finish. The device’s glass panels subtly taper at the edges, creating a visually appealing effect. Notably, the camera island features a metal bezel with a Parisian hobnail texture, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall design.

On the display front, the Xiaomi 14 Pro boasts a generous 6.73-inch 1440×3200 px 12-bit LTPO OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate—a spec closely aligned with its predecessor, the 13 Pro. However, what truly sets this device apart is its exceptional peak brightness of 3,000 nits and Xiaomi Longjing Glass protection. Thinner bezels surrounding the display further enhance the immersive visual experience.

The Xiaomi 14 Pro will be available in classic black, pristine white, nature-inspired rock green, and an exclusive Titanium Special Edition. The device’s titanium alloy matte side adds durability and style to this already impressive offering.

In terms of its camera system, Xiaomi has opted for the “Light Hunter 900″ sensor with a custom Leica Summilux lens. This 50 MP 1/1.31” sensor boasts 1.2 μm pixel size and a remarkable 13.5 EV dynamic range. The custom 23 mm lens features a variable aperture, ranging from a wide f/1.42 to f/4.0 when closed. Although the sensor is approximately 44% smaller than its predecessor, last year’s 13 Pro, the new lens is around 80% brighter, resulting in virtually unchanged light-gathering capacity.

The device also includes a 75mm f/2.0 telephoto camera with floating autofocus elements, similar to the Xiaomi 13 Pro, and is capable of capturing stunning 40MP regular photos and 50MP portrait mode images. Rounding out the camera system is a 50MP f/2.2 14 mm ultrawide snapper with 5 cm macro capabilities.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 14 Pro is powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 4 nm process. Users can choose from configurations with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or a whopping 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. The device’s 4,880mAh battery supports 120W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

For eager consumers in China, pre-orders for the Xiaomi 14 Pro are available in black, white, and rock green, with three storage options: 12/256GB, 16/512GB, and 16GB/1TB. Prices range from CN¥4,999 to CN¥5,999.

Xiaomi 14

The Xiaomi 14 is a notable addition to the compact flagship segment, continuing the design philosophy of the Xiaomi 14 Pro. With a symmetrical design, flat-sided frame, and angular corners, the device shares design elements with its predecessor, the Xiaomi 13.

In terms of dimensions, the Xiaomi 14 remains virtually identical to its forerunner, measuring 152.8 mm in length, 71.5 mm in width, and 8.20 mm in thickness. Two versions of the device are available—a glass variant weighing 193 g and a lighter nano-leather model weighing 188 g.

The Xiaomi 14 boasts a 6.36-inch diagonal display with a 1200×2670 px LTPO OLED panel featuring a 120 Hz refresh rate and a remarkable peak brightness of 3,000 nits, elevating the viewing experience to new heights.

The camera system on the Xiaomi 14, while similar to the Xiaomi 14 Pro, features subtle differences. The 50MP main camera utilizes the same “Light Hunter” sensor with 1.2 μm pixels but includes a fixed-aperture 23mm f/1.6 lens. The 75 mm floating telephoto camera remains unchanged, while the 50MP 14mm ultrawide camera appears to lack autofocus and, in turn, macro capabilities.

Under the hood, the Xiaomi 14 is powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and offers a choice of 8GB, 12GB, or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, along with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. The device’s 4,610 mAh battery supports 90W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

Pre-orders for the Xiaomi 14 have already begun, with prices starting at CN¥3,999 for the 8/256GB model, CNY¥4,299 for the 12/256GB model, CNY¥4,599 for the 16/512GB model, and CN¥4,999 for the top-of-the-line 16GB/1TB model.

Xiaomi has once again raised the bar with its innovative 14 series, offering cutting-edge technology, impressive camera systems, and a stylish design. With a range of configurations to choose from, these devices cater to a diverse array of consumer preferences. As the tech world eagerly awaits their official release, Xiaomi continues to be a driving force in smartphone innovation, setting new standards for the industry.

Pokdepinion: These look very promising, but I will always end up wondering about the Ultra variant at the end of the day. Hopefully I’ll get to review these when it’s officially announced for the Malaysian market.
