Malaysians, meet HUAWEI MatePad Air: this new tablet from the Chinese smartphone maker is conspicuously taking naming ideas from that fruit brand, and it happens to sit in between the two Air-branded tablets size-wise. Either way, here’s what you can expect from the new MatePad tablet.
HUAWEI MatePad Air Specs & Features
For an Air-branded tablet, the MatePad Air is reasonably thin and light as far as tablets go, measuring 5.3mm thick and weighs 509 grams; it features a 12-inch 2.8K (2800 x 1840) OLED display with a peak brightness of up to 1,200 nits, a PaperMatte anti-glare finish, and 92% screen-to-body ratio from its very thin 4.69mm bezels, which is still enough to fit a 12MP webcam inside, unlike Samsung’s teardrop notch approach on its Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra.
The tablet supports the HUAWEI M-Pencil Pro stylus which includes pinch, press, and rotate gesture controls along with 16,384 levels of pressure sensitivity (4x the resolution of most styluses today). Additional features include Swipe to Turn Pages for navigating documents and presentations, and an Air Mouse function for controlling slides remotely. For internals, the MatePad Air is powered by the Kirin T93C octa-core chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. It includes a 10,100mAh battery with 66W HUAWEI SuperCharge fast charging support.

Now available in Malaysia, the HUAWEI MatePad Air is priced at RM3,999 and is available in Airy Blue, White, and Sakura Pink color options. The tablet is available at HUAWEI Experience Stores and through HUAWEI’s official online channels, including its official website, Shopee store, Lazada flagship store, and TikTok Shop.
