Noctua is known for two things: well-designed cooling hardware, and that brown-and-beige color that most people have a love-hate relationship with. Don’t expect to associate mainstream trends like RGB lighting and displays galore with Noctua anytime soon, according to its Chief Product Officer, Jakob Dellinger.
You Buy Noctua For Cooling, And Cooling Only
In the interview with Club386, Dellinger explains: “We want to spend as little in the way of resources as possible on making things look pretty – that’s just not where our focus lies. That’s why it’s very unlikely for a Noctua product to come out with a huge fancy screen or something like that.” While he clarified that “never say never” when it comes things like RGB lighting, it’s unlikely to happen “because it’s just not where we put our focus.”
The reasoning is straightforward, and it’s less so bucking the trend on purpose, and more so putting the engineering resources into things that truly counts. “We like catering to a specific audience who value quietness, performance, and quality, rather than those who might put their priority on visuals. But that’s not to say we’re above anything like that [RGB]. It’s just our focus,” he continued. “What we want to do is drive thermal efficiency, improve the quietness of operation, and ensure the best possible quality.”
I mean, let’s face it – an extra strip of RGB lighting or a 3-inch display on Noctua’s new AIO cooler isn’t going to make it perform any better despite what the internet memes want you to (jokingly) believe. That being said though, the (in)famous brown-and-beige color scheme was there because of a deliberate design decision, as it is one that “reflects that focus on quietness and quality.”
Fair enough, Noctua – those who want a bit more flair beyond just the brown-and-beige might want to look elsewhere for the foreseeable future. Alternatively, if you prefer plain black and nothing else, the Austrian brand does offer chromax.black series for some of its products as well.
Pokdepinion: Can’t blame them on this for striving to design the best cooler possible. Engineering is no easy work after all!
