Samsung sent us their latest tablet in the form of Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ for us to take a look, but before we take it for a proper spin and further evaluations, here’s our first impressions on this properly laptop-sized tablet.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE+: Unboxing

Right away you’re looking at a large but slim box that fits an equally large tablet – precisely 13.1 inches of it, to be exact. That’s pretty much the same size you get from the 13-inch-class laptops, and it’s even got the same aspect ratio (16:10) to boot, so we’re looking at a very laptop-esque experience here from the get go.

There is still some fair distinction between laptop packaging and tablet packaging (which is more smartphone-like) – you’re immediately greeted with this slab of glass, and taking it out reveals the basic accessories you’ll need to get it going. We have the Wi-Fi model here which comes in Blue color (other options include Gray and Silver), though a SIM ejector pin is still included to access the microSD card slot. You also get a USB-C cable, an S Pen, along with some documentation.
First Impressions

Unlike the proper Tab S10 lineup, the FE (and FE+ in this case) is focused on budget while keeping most of the flagship-level features that you’ll get from the main lineup, so there are some changes made in terms of the specs. Chief among them is the chipset and display, namely the Exynos 1580 SoC – the same one found in Galaxy A56 – along with the IPS panel instead of the AMOLED panel that Samsung is long known for. Still, I find the colors on this IPS panel to be quite solid, although AMOLED is always better in terms of colors and power savings.

As far as initial impression goes, nothing to point out regarding the Tab S10 FE+’s performance – it’s smooth and snappy enough for general use, which applies to the included S Pen as well. This model is exclusively available in 256GB+12GB configuration, both of which are decent, although I do wish 512GB is an option (at least you do have microSD expansion up to 2TB if you need more storage). As a side note, the speaker are great, and gets even better with some EQ tuning too.

There are two omissions on the tablet that I’m not exactly a fan of – the first being the headphone jack, but at this point it probably sounds like a broken record if the general direction the entire smartphone industry is heading is any indication these days; the second one, which is a distinct absence compared to the regular Galaxy Tab S10 line, is the lack of camera flash for the rear 13MP camera. Granted, you’re might not be using it take photos of your daily life (smartphones do that), but the lack of flash might just be one annoyance to deal with if you’re taking photos in dark environments.

Additionally, Samsung also provided us with the book cover keyboard designed to complement the Galaxy Tab S10 FE+ for a more laptop-like experience. Interestingly, this doesn’t operate off of pogo pins (which this tablet feature), and instead connects via Bluetooth connection. As such, there’s battery onboard which means additional weight, and the overall weight honestly isn’t far off a regular clamshell laptop. On that note, the trackpad of this accessory definitely could do with a lot of improvements – get a mouse instead if you really need to use pointer-based controls.
