Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific
Porsche is building on the success of esports events such as the Porsche Asia Pacific Forza Cup in 2020, the Porsche SimRacing Trophy, and the Porsche E-sports Supercup with this latest simulation racing tournament, making the sports car manufacturer one of the forerunning automobile brands to engage in esports racing.
The Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific will be held in Gran Turismo Sport, a game developed by Sony for the PlayStation 4. Participants from Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, the Philippines, and New Zealand will compete in the esports event, which will consist of five qualifying rounds, each with two competition berths.
Competitors who advance to the semifinals will face the best racers from Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan, who will each send their best five. The top 10 participants who advance to the finals will compete for the grand prize of an all-expenses-paid Porsche weekend in Tokyo, which will include a visit to the Porsche Experience Centre Tokyo and many other Porsche experiences.
The qualifying races will be held at some of the world’s most famous racing circuits, including the Circuit de la Sarthe from the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where Porsche has won a record 19 titles, Fuji Speedway, where World Endurance Championship (WEC) races have been held, the Mount Panorama Circuit from the Bathurst 24 Hour race, and the Goodwood Motor Circuit, which is home to the most famous race in the world, the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Different cars will be used for each race, including the Porsche 919 Hybrid and 962 C for Le Mans, as well as the 356 A, a classic type from the 1950s motorsport scene, requiring a diverse set of talents to win.
The Porsche Gran Turismo Cup Asia Pacific finals will be held in mid-December 2021 (exact date to be announced on the official website here).
