According to GamesIndustry.biz, the Blizzard and Vicarious Visions merger is effective immediately, where they will be working exclusively on Blizzard games. For now, there is no word on exactly what they will be working on, whether it’s existing games or a brand new game.

For those of you who aren’t aware, Vicarious Visions is the same people who worked on Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2. At the moment, the studio has over 200 or so people working, which would certainly bolster production on Blizzard’s end. They were initially acquired by Activision as far back as 2005.

After collaborating with Vicarious Visions for some time and developing a great relationship, Blizzard realized there was an opportunity for [Vicarious Visions] to provide long-term support.

As a result of this merger, Vicarious Visions studio head Jen Oneal has been repositioned as Blizzard Executive Vice President of Development. The new position will have her joining the leadership team and report directly to company president, J. Allen Barack. Given the size of the company, they won’t be moving Vicarious Vision’s headquarters in Albany, New York to another location.

Given the new directive, it appears they will no longer be working on more Tony Hawk or Crash Bandicoot games in the future. This news isn’t exactly met in a positive light but perhaps things will change if a new IP gets revealed in the future.

Pokdepinion: I have a strong feeling the majority of them will be working on a brand new game. This is simply an opinion, and nothing more.
