When it comes to games on Steam, user reviews play a major role to get people interested in them. Due to how Valve designed the UI for their digital storefront, the developer of Emoji Evolution decided to take advantage of the situation and name his company “Very Positive”.

The logic behind it is that it will confuse gamers into think that reception for the game is great, thus encouraging them to buy the game. While this wouldn’t trick people who are very familiar with Steam, it is bound to cause confusion for a number of people, especially since there are millions of gamers on it on a daily basis. Given how the font and colour for the developer / publisher is similar to the reviews summary, it’s easy to see why people might get it mixed up.

After the issue started gaining traction online, the quality control team at Valve took swift action and banned the developer’s account. It was confirmed in a tweet by the developer shortly after. The developer also went on the mention that gamers on Steam make conclusions about information when they see familiar words rather than spending time reading everything that’s necessary. With how Steam reviews summary and developer / publisher details look similar, this is what he focused on to take advantage of the situation.
