Nintendo Switch Successor Confirmed, Announcement ‘Within This Fiscal Year’
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa has posted on X (Twitter) via Nintendo’s investor relations account confirming the next-generation Nintendo Switch is arriving soon. However, no exact date has been given aside from ‘within this fiscal year’, when the Japanese gaming giant will announce further details on the successor.
Here’s the announcement in full:
This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation.
– Shuntaro Furukawa, President of Nintendo on X (Twitter)
We can reasonably deduce that the announcement will not be made before July this year, as the company has made it clear that the upcoming Nintendo Direct event slated this June will make no mentions of the Switch successor; on the other hand, we can expect the announcement to be made before March 31, 2025 – which is when the Fiscal Year 2024 ends.
Nintendo President’s confirmation has largely aligned with various inside sources claiming the next-gen Switch will be launching sometime in Q1 2025. Information regarding its hardware is relatively scarce at this point, with the only “known” figure being the 1536 CUDA cores based on NVIDIA’s Ampere (RTX 30 series) GPU architecture.
