Nintendo Suggests Simple Fix for Nintendo Switch Overheat Issue 26

Given how hot it can be during the Summer, there has been an increase of Nintendo Switch overheat issues reported recently. Nintendo has since suggested a simple fix for this problem, which can help but doesn’t necessarily guarantee it either.

Simple Fix for Nintendo Switch Overheat Issue

The official Nintendo customer service Twitter account in Japan recently tweeted out about the Nintendo Switch thermals, particularly on preventing the system from overheating. As expected, the tweets are in Japanese but if you are curious, this is what the thread says:

If you use your Nintendo Switch in a hot environment, the console’s temperature might rise. You should ideally play between temperatures of 5 to 35°C (41 to 95 °F). Moreover, if the air intake and exhaust ports are blocked, the console’s temperature might rise. Please be careful not to obstruct them.

1st tweet

If your Nintendo Switch overheats, it might automatically enter sleep mode as a protection measure. If you play on TV mode, please set the dock in a way so the heat doesn’t easily accumulate.

2nd tweet

If foreign objects such as dust enter the air intake or exhaust ports, remove them with a vacuum cleaner. For safety concerns, do not try to disassemble the console.

3rd tweet

While not all games will face heat-related issues, certain games like The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild will really push the system to its limits, which is quite audible via the fan noise. If the weather itself is hot, that would make it far worse.

Basically, what Nintendo is suggesting is for people to vacuum the exhaust ports on the rear of the Nintendo Switch to ensure no dust or anything else is blocking the way. They also don’t recommend disassembling it for safety purposes.

For now, if you are facing overheat issues with your Nintendo Switch, you can just vacuum it for now unless you find some sort of accessory that can help safely cool the system down.

Pokdepinion: This certainly does help but it doesn’t permanently fix the inherent flaw with the Nintendo Switch’s cooling, particularly when exhausting hot air out. I’m partly hoping there are improvements on the OLED version, even if it is a minor one.
