The Original Star Wars Battlefront II Just Got A New Update – 13 years later!

Still alive and kicking!

Here’ something you don’t see everyday. The original Star Wars Battlefront II just got itself a new update; 13 years later! Yup you read that right! The OG Star Wars Battlefront II, which was released way back in 2005 by the now defunct developer Pandemic Studios just received a large patch recently through Steam to improve its online functions (with servers being reopened October last year). The 269.3MB patch includes minor bug fixes and optimised performance with the more important fixes being:

• Improved lobby functionality
• Steam usernames should now display correctly
• Ping calculations are more accurate

Now these updates might seem really minute to some but to diehard fans of the game this is a complete godsend. Especially for a game that is more than a decade old and is considered by many to be superior than the new Battlefront 2 that came out last year. The update did not add Steam Workshop however much to the chagrin of many.

Now here’s the most curious part of this whole update. Neither Disney nor EA has any direct involvement with the update. Why would they? Disney is no longer actively involved in the video game business and merely licenses their properties to other studios and publishers like EA for development. EA on the other hand is likely to be busy with their own Star Wars Battlefront 2 so whoever they are, thank you.
