Volition Debuts New Saints Row Reboot Game

Looks like the Saints Row franchise is getting a brand new reboot which is set to release next year. The reboot, simply titled ‘Saints Row’ will feature an all-new cast of characters in a brand new place called Santo Ileso.

Here’s a brief description of what the game is all about:

Welcome to Santo Ileso, a vibrant fictional city in the heart of the American SouthWest. In a world rife with crime, where lawless factions fight for power, a group of young friends embark on their own criminal venture, as they rise to the top in their bid to become Self Made.

Experience the biggest and best Saints Row playground ever created; the unique sprawling world of Santo Ileso is the backdrop for a wild, larger than life sandbox of thrilling side hustles, criminal ventures and blockbuster missions, as you shoot, drive, and wingsuit your way to the top.

Safe to say that developers Volition is pretty much starting on a clean slate with the Saints Row reboot as the game will have no ties to the eclectic characters, locations or zany happenings from the previous games in the franchise. References to the previous games are essentially non-existent in this reboot except for maybe a few easter eggs here and there (we think).

In this game, you’ll be playing as The Boss alongside three other members of the new The Saints, Neenah, Kevin, and Eli where you face off against rival gangs, Los Panteros, The Idols, and Marshall as you grow your empire across Santo Ileso. Volition says that the new The Saints is more akin to a ‘start-up company’ rather than a normal gang which is a pretty unique way of putting it.  Volition also stated that The Boss will also be customisable similar to past games with “the most extensive character customization suite ever seen in the series.”

Gameplay is pretty much what you’d expect from a Saints Row game with plenty of guns, vehicles and a whole lot of chaos. The new Santo Ileso map is inspired by American Southwest and is ‘the biggest and best Saints Row playground ever’. The map is divided into nine different districts which can be traversed using a slew of different kinds of vehicles from cars, bikes, planes, helicopters, VTOLs, hoverbikes, hoverboards, go-karts to even wingsuits. Yup, sounds very familiar to me.

The reboot also sees the introduction of co-op gameplay where players can go on missions together. The devs also stated that the co-op will be a seamless experience where players can just drop in or drop out of their buddy’s games whenever they want.

The Saints Row reboot is set to release on 25 February 2022 on PC via the Epic Games Store, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, PS4, and PS5.

Pokdepinion: I have mixed feelings about this game. On one hand, I’m pretty excited to play another Saints Row game, on the other, I’m kinda bummed that nothing from the original games are in this game. Also, someone said that the characters look like they came from Fortnite and now I can’t unsee the similarities.
