Sony Backtracks, Horizon Forbidden West Free PS4 To PS5 Upgrade Now Available
A few days ago, Sony made the controversial decision in an announcement that the PS4 standard version of Horizon Forbidden West will not be eligible for a free upgrade to PS5. Naturally, this caused much discourse among the gaming community with many criticising the decision. Now, Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment has come out with a statement saying that players who purchased the PS4 version of Horizon Forbidden West will now be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free.
Horizon Forbidden West PS4 to PS5 now available
In an update to the original blog post, Jim Ryan said that “it’s abundantly clear that the offerings we confirmed in our pre-order kickoff missed the mark”. He also clarified that they will stand by their original decision to continue offering free cross-gen upgrades for their games including the Horizon Zero Dawn sequel.
The statement also mentioned that future games will cost RM50 to upgrade from the PS4 version to the PS5 version. These future cross-gen titles include the upcoming God of War game and Gran Turismo 7.
Horizon Forbidden West is set to release on February 18th, 2022, for the PS4 and PS5. There will be several versions of the game available including a standard edition, Digital Deluxe Edition, a Special Edition, a Collector’s Edition and a Regalla Edition.
The standard edition will carry a retail price of RM229 for the PS4 version and RM299 for the PS5 version while the Digital Deluxe Edition will retail for RM339. The retail prices for the other editions have yet to be revealed at the time of writing.

Pokdepinion: I’m glad that Sony reversed their decision to not offer free PS4 to PS5 upgrade for Horizon Forbidden West. I don’t have a PS5 as of yet and I do plan to buy the game for the PS4 in the meantime and it would be nice for the game to be available when I eventually get the PS5 in the future.
