Players Of Assassin’s Creed Met With Pop-Up Ads, Ubisoft Blames Technical Error
Ads and promotions exist in some ways for games, though for the most part, they are unintrusive and only happen on the main menu of the game. However, players of some Assassin’s Creed titles saw the ad slipping into the gameplay itself, triggering the pop-up ad as players attempt to access the map menu in-game.
This certainly isn’t met with positive responses among gamers – especially in a time where companies are increasingly aggressive with ads and anti-ad blocking measures – so Ubisoft has jumped out to clarify the situation on X (Twitter). In the post, the publisher acknowledged the issue and blamed “technical error”, which has since been fixed. The intent is to display ads in the game’s main menu, though a bug has caused it to appear in gameplay too.
We have been made aware that some players encountered a pop-up message in-game while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles yesterday. This was the result of a technical error that has now been fixed.

However, as noted by the Community Notes feature, this isn’t the first time an in-game ad has made its way into the wrong parts of the game. Understandably, players are skeptical of Ubisoft’s explanation on the matter. In any case, regardless of the company’s intention – looks like in-game ads will stay where they are, for now.
