Renowned Leaker Confirms PS5 Pro Is Launching In Late 2024

Last week, we mentioned the alleged existence of PS5 Pro with its proprietary PSSR upscaling technology, which was leaked by Moore’s Law Is Dead. The leaker has been somewhat controversial in the past due to his relatively spotty track record, but this information has been recently corroborated by Tom Henderson (of Insider Gaming), who is one of the top leakers in the circle.

He confirms that the YouTube channel’s information is “real,” and further clarifies that the leak was originating from a PlayStation developer portal, which was recently sent out to “a wider band of third-party developers.” Aside from that, the outlet has provided some numbers via leaked documents, which are as follows (some already known prior):

  • Rendering 45% faster than PS5
  • 2-3x Ray-tracing (x4 in some cases)
  • 33.5 Teraflops
  • PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/antialiasing solution
  • Support for resolutions up to 8K is planned for future SDK version
  • Custom machine learning architecture
  • AI Accelerator, supporting 300 TOPS of 8-bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point

Hardware-wise, the PS5 Pro – codenamed Trinity – was reported to have 30 RDNA3 WGPs (60 CUs) and utilize 18Gbps GDDR6 memory. Henderson has also confirmed that Devkits has been available to first-party studios since September 2023, and third-party studios have gained access since January this year. On top of that, “Testkits” will be available from Spring 2024 onwards, which will be “identical to the final product.”

Finally, the outlet reports that PS5 Pro is currently targeting for holiday 2024 release (think December 2024), but pointed out that this may change “due to the lack of first-party games released on the PlayStation 5 this year.”

Pokdepinion: Looks like a pretty capable machine. Not sure if Microsoft has the answer for it.
