AMD may finally be interesting again in the graphics segment with their upcoming AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. The latest leaked slides revealed the performance of the card pitted against the GeForce RTX 2070, and the results are actually pretty interesting. At the very least, AMD has something that can compete with NVIDIA’s upper mid-range cards. But of course, that will depend on AMD’s pricing for the AMD Navi cards.

If we look at the charts, we do see the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT trading punches with the GeForce RTX 2070, with it falling behind slightly in the Shadow of the Tomb Raider, while pulling ahead in most of the other titles. The highlight is definitely Battlefield 5, where we see 22% better performance with the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT vs the GeForce RTX 2070. This should be without DirectX Raytracing enabled, unless AMD is trying to pull a fast one on gamers.

The slide also hints at a dual 8-pin PCIe power connector, which points to a pretty power hungry card, despite all of AMD’s claims about RDNA being much more efficient than previous generations. The GeForce RTX 2070 Founders Edition draws power through a single 8-pin power connector, so NVIDIA Turing should be a bit more efficient than AMD Radeon Navi. AMD’s cards being more power hungry at launch before being optimized by enthusiasts isn’t an unknown phenomenon, so maybe we will see that again with the AMD Navi architecture?

Without dedicated RT cores for raytracing, AMD will probably have to compete with NVIDIA in terms of pricing. Stay tuned for more info about the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT!

Pokdepinion: All NVIDIA has to do is to slash prices. Or release a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Ti (Super?).
