There is no doubt that people spend more in preparation of festive seasons. Malaysians are now adopting online shopping more than ever. This allows online E-commerce companies like 11street to gauge the interests of these buyers and come out with rather interesting insights; which they have shared with us. The projections are based on 2015 to 2016 purchasing behaviours.

Malaysian shoppers keep surprising us. During the Ramadan Raya period from 2015 to 2016, we have experienced more than 2.5 times uplift in overall online sales. 11street projects that online sales will continue upward by at least 50% throughout the Ramadan and Raya periods this year, thanks to our customers’ evolving shopping patterns. Hoseok Kim, Chief Executive Officer of 11street

The usual sought-after items are still going to be continuous. These include electronics, home gadgets and clothing apparels as they prepare for Hari Raya. However, what 11street notice was that there has been a significant increase in the purchased of e-vouchers in 2016. The search for food and beverage e-vouchers surged to 1.2 million just during Ramadan period that year.

Kim indicated also that this year, they will be expecting consumers to purchase more e-vouchers especially for buka puasa buffets, adding on to the fact that more five-star restaurants have hopped aboard 11street to offer their delectable spread. 11street is dedicated in evolving to move faster than current online shopping trends and this can be seen through their vast offerings too.

As Hari Raya approaches, surges in search for car services and road safety-related items will multiply rapidly as they prepare to balik kampung. Since 2015 when 11street was born, it has already witnessed a three-fold increase in both searches and online sales for baby car seats and car maintenance packages.

It has been found that these behaviourial patterns are driven by the lower prices found online to combat rising cost of living, while providing convenience on top of abundance in variety. Funny enough, some Malaysians saw the necessity in 2016 to boost their Hari Raya preparation through the purchase of unexpected items like gaming laptop and sports jerseys. I guess, they pretty much had already predicted their Hari Raya angpows, eh?

Pokdepinion: It’s not really out of the ordinary to see these trends, but if you are an online seller, you would want to consider providing these products for your consumers too. Afterall, chasing market trends can land into pretty good business at the end of the day.
