Motorola releases 3 new models

Today Motorola released 3 new models, the new Moto X Style/Pure, Moto X Play and the Moto G (3rd gen). Motorola is not shy to directly compare their devices against the Samsung Galaxy S6, especially regarding the TurboCharging fast-charge technology and battery life of the Moto Xs.

They were also proud to announce that the 21MP camera in the Moto Xs are ranked by DxO as one of the top 3 smartphone cameras, fixing the issue as the camera was often cited as the Achilles’ heel of the prior versions. The camera in the Moto G is also the exact same module as the one in the Nexus 6. They showed off their latest improvements to make the Moto X an ideal partner for your lifestyle. Take a look at the video below to see it in action. It doesn’t seem like anything one can’t do with custom apps, but I think this is the first time it comes integrated with a phone. Quite nifty texting without touching the screen (look ma, no hands!) but I am not sure how it will fair with our Malaysian slang if it comes to Malaysia.

The Moto G is also IPX7 rated protection against water ingress…but….watch the video

All the new models can be customized in Motomaker.

The pricing was not announced in the video, but they compared the prices to “other premium devices” where the Moto X Style will be priced $200-$300 cheaper, the Moto X Play $300-$400 cheaper and the Moto G at $400 – $500 cheaper. If we assume they are comparing them against the Galaxy S6 ($699) in terms of pricing, it should come up to around $399 (~RM1518) for the Moto X Style, $299 (~RM1137) for the Moto X Play and $199 (~RM757) for the Moto G. The Moto X Style will be available coming September, the Moto X Play in 55 countries coming August, and the Moto G in 60 countries, as we speak.

Pokdepinion: Seems like smartphone buyers will be spoilt for choice in Q4 2015. Oh and they might have to check the waterproofing of the Moto G as well.
