With OnePlus’ flagships becoming more and more expensive, the OnePlus Nord arrives to recapture market share in the more price-conscious price segment that their flagship devices have exited. Well, it’s a lot more affordable than the OnePlus flagships, but this is a mid-range device going up against the affordable flagships in the market right now.

At RM1799 for the 8GB + 128GB variant, it isn’t too bad. It comes with 5G support, and sports a relatively snappy Snapdragon 765G. It would be a great device, if it existed in a vacuum, but unfortunately it doesn’t.

It competes directly against certain Snapdragon 865 devices that are now offered for even less money, despite packing the same amount of storage. Even the 12GB + 256GB version positioned at RM2399 is priced relatively poorly against this flagship killer, which is also available in a 256GB storage capacity for just RM2299.

OnePlus Malaysia tries to sweeten the deal with the OnePlus Buds, although I am not sure if anyone who’s looking at a smartphone in this category will appreciate the rather basic pair of TWS earphones.

On the plus side, it does have OIS for its main 48MP Sony IMX586 camera. That’s not a really common feature, so it’s nice to see it offered here in the OnePlus Nord. The other cameras are extremely mediocre, with a 8MP f/2.25 ultra-wide angle camera and a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera accompanying the main camera. And there’s a 5MP depth sensor too, for whatever reason.

OnePlus Nord Specs

  • Snapdragon 765G, octa-core up to 2.4GHz, 7nm
  • Up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM
  • Up to 256GB UFS 2.1 storage
  • 6.44″ FHD+ Fluid AMOLED display, 90Hz refresh rate
  • 48MP f/1.75, OIS + 8MP f/2.25 ultra-wide angle + 2MP f/2.4 macro + 5MP depth sensor
  • 32MP f/2.45 selfie camera
  • 4115mAh battery, 30W Warp Charge 30T
  • 8GB + 128GB: RM1799
    12GB + 256GB: RM2299

The 128GB variant is already available now in both Blue Marble and Gray Onyx on Shopee. If you want to get it offline, you will have to wait for 22nd August to get it. Meanwhile if you desire the higher-end variant, wait until 25th August to get it on Shopee with the free OnePlus Buds.

OnePlus Nord sale

For those of you who want to get an even better deal, OnePlus Malaysia hinted that they will be working with Maxis, so you might be able to get the OnePlus Nord via Maxis’ rather impressive phone packages.
