OPPO To Pay Nokia After Licensing Deal Was Signed

In a rather shocking news, it seems that Nokia has signed a patent licensing deal with OPPO.

Nokia Signs Patent Deal With OPPO

The deal will see OPPO to make payments to the Finnish based smartphone company in a multi-year license period.

[blockquote cite=”Nokia Chief Legal Officer and President of Nokia Technologies, Maria Varsellona”]OPPO is one of the leaders in the smartphone industry and we are pleased to welcome them as a Nokia licensee. This agreement further validates our global licensing program[/blockquote]

Despite the deal, the terms of the agreement remain confidential between the two parties. Though with it, it will improve Nokia’s financial results and positively affect the balance sheet of the whole group, as money gained from patents is usually profit.

Nokia has invested a vast amount of money in terms of R&D in the last 20 years, and after selling their Distribution and Storage business  to Microsoft, they engage in a more aggressive licensing policy to maximize their investment returns.

Pokdepinion: I wonder what the deal could mean in the future. Could OPPO really implement something from Nokia’s end?
