Ever felt like you’re paying more for Grab now than you were before? Did you also wonder why? Some recent changes in their policy could be the reason.

Do You Feel Like You’re Paying More for Grab Nowadays?

Do You Feel Like You're Paying More for Grab Nowadays?

I’m sure you’ve heard some of your friends / family members / colleagues claiming that Grab has suddenly gotten more expensive or that they’re generally paying more. While there could be a variety of reasons such as traffic and the road taken, having no concrete information makes it hard to verify it.

Well, according to a report that surfaced on RinggitPlus, this could actually be why.

Grab has updated its commission structure to comply with the new e-hailing regulations in Malaysia that was set by the Ministry of Transportation. One such change is higher peak hour fares for rides in the Klang Valley area. The increase was made to compensate for the high volume traffic during peak hours (morning and evening).

It’s also worth noting that it’s not the only change for Grab but mostly related to drivers. The commission charges that the company will take have been reduced to 20% (previously 25%). Keep in mind however that this will only apply to drivers that utilize the Auto-Accept feature. For those who are not using it, it will still retain the same 25% charge.

To incentivize the use of the Auto-Accept feature, Grab has made it a requirement to use it in order for the driver to be eligible for Hourly Guarantees and Flexi Incentives. Another thing the company is introducing is a “far pick-up bonus”, where drivers are guaranteed RM1 for each 1KM driven when picking up a passenger.

It seems that Grab is aggressively pushing for as many drivers to use the Auto-Accept feature to minimize the chances of passengers getting poor driver matches (such as driver being too far away). The company believes that their algorithm will always pair the best driver for the job so no utilizing it will end up affecting waiting time and pick up distance for both passengers and drivers alike.

Pokdepinion: Lots of new changes to Grab it seems. Hopefully many people take note of this.

People HV better choices for cheaper and more efficient and ‘personal touch’ from many more better competitors such as Ez cab and Mycar which is fast growing ,anti anti monopoly ,and more to come.Your greaddness for ,buying over Uber service and maybe try to monopoly the ehailing service will not work bcos on political interest, beside business interest, other group or individual too will be given chances to apply for the same bussiness rights in Msia (_bcos this not Singapore where u cone from) and and the customer’s right to deserve the alternative choices. Most ex uber drivers who has become the victim of your ‘buy over’ ,and rejected from joining you to earn their living re very happy hoping for your downfall so that other ehailing transport service can grow and get well established faster.or even beat you soon.

Definately paying more, no matter so-called peak hour or not. Used to be U can hire for a fee of RM 3 or 4 now nothing less than RM5 and that too if U R lucky. Govt should better regulate to protect the pockets of the rakyat.

Get a taxi sir, they provide better service and charges i look from your point of view, as a driver, from rm3 what do you do with that? You pay rm0.75 for grab, rm2 for petrol and rm0.25 as an earning. Wise!

Absolute horse shit. Grab is playing with the fares, they know how easy the money is and are falling into the pitfalls as the cronies

I take Grab sometimes from work in Klang to home (KL). The price has gone up by RM10 during non peak hours. The reason not given above is monopolistic power granted to Grab by ineffective govt agency (ies). Current competitors lack scale and features unfortunately

Easy for passenger to complain about the hike but have you ever drive for grab? Driving in rush hour traffic for 1 and a half hour for a measly RM10 fare?
