The upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 will be featuring a 64-bit custom Kryo CPU, manufactured on a “leading edge process FinFET process node” which is now believed to be Samsung’s 14nm FinFET process. Rumors claim that Qualcomm’s move from TSMC to Samsung is a bid to regain Samsung as client.

With Qualcomm Zeroth platform capabilities, Qualcomm Sense ID 3D ultrasonic biometric platform optimized for the Snapdragon 820, we have much to look forward to in this new processor. Also in the rumors are the rather high 3.0GHz clock speed.

The new chip might also be released earlier than expected, considering the heating issue plaguing the Snapdragon 810. Rumors are that it will be launched in October and be featured in the latest phones launched before Christmas season.

Pokdepinion: Given the problems Snapdragon 810 has faced with overheating, the Snapdragon 820 better arrive sooner to save Qualcomm’s day. Rumors are also stating that devices using Snapdragon 615 are also facing overheating issues. Qualcomm has had a good run with their Krait cores, taking the throne as king of the benchmark hill for some time. Hopefully the Kryo cores will be just as impressive.
