Do you keep tabs on Valve’s very own operating system called SteamOS? It went public with the first release, named SteamOS “Alchemy”, that was based on Debian 7 and today the successor of Alchemy has landed, “Brewmaster”, and it’s based on Debian 8.1 stable.

This build is still young and very in need of gaming community feedback. SteamOS Brewmaster is available for download either as ISO (for legacy system) or ZIP (for UEFI system) format, unfortunately you can’t upgrade from the Alchemist build and this means you have to do a fresh install to give it a run.

brew

Here’s a quick TL;DR of the SteamOS Brewmaster build, it’s based on the new Debian 8.1 and runs on Linux kernel 3.18 with some additional SteamOS tweaks, unlike the Alchemist build that uses Debian 7 and Linux 3.10 kernel. To who are inclined to run Brewmaster, make sure you read the details here.

Pokdepinion: Just realised that SteamOS seems to be using DOTA2 hero name to name their builds. First build, Alchemy followed by Brewmaster, I wonder what codename will be used for the next build, maybe Clinkz? Chaos Knight? Or will it be Crystal Maiden? And will the next build run on Linux 4.0 kernel?
