Sunway iLabs Launch First Start-It Challenge – Aims To Cultivate The Innovation Spirit!

Sunway Innovation Labs, or as they would prefer to be referred as, Sunway iLabs, launched their first ever Start-It Challenge to promote the growth of three new companies while giving the opportunity showcase innovation talents amongst students and recent graduates.

The event was launched today by the Crown Prince of Selangor and Royal Patron of Selangor Youth Community (SAY) DYTM Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah with the founding trustee of the Jeffrey Chead Foundation and founder and chairman of Sunway Group, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr Jeffrey Cheah.

Participating companies include Sunway, Digi, CIMB, Axiata Digital, Lazada, Impiro and Grab presented their challenges to the students at the launch. The companies set up booths with the aim of motivating students to identify issues and create solutions to solve problems faced by the respective companies while sharing insights on their work culture and aspirations.

Young entrepreneurs are assets to the State, and even more for Selangor as the biggest revenue contributors to the nation. With the Start-It Challenge, entrepreneurs would have the opportunity to pitch their ideas, and be equipped to tackle market challenges. Following the launch, Sunway iLabs will run an Ideation Weekend this August 26 and 27, where participants can gain a lot from a design thinking workshop as well as a sharing session by successful start-up founders.

The Start-It Challenge is in line with the objective of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation, which is to nurture yound minds. The entrepreneurial spirit continues to drive Sunway Group to greater heights and we want to see more young Malaysians discover their potential and contribute to achieving our nation’s goal to become a high-income country by 2020 Tan Sri Dr Jeffrey Cheah

The top 20 participants of the contest will be selected for a Bootcamp Weekend on the 9th and 10th September 2017 to further nurture their ideas. Top three winners will be awarded cash prizes worth up to RM 9,000 in total and receive an offer to join Sunway iLabs accelerator for further developement in their ideas and launching of their ventures.

Nonetheless, other participants still have a chance in getting interviews with a selected number of companies for employment or an internship.

If you are interested in joining the contest, you are more than encouraged to join. The Start-It Challenge is open to both undergraduates and postgraduate students as well as recent graduates (having graduated within the last three years) from universities and colleges in Selangor. Pokdepinion: In honesty, great to see contests such as this happening. Ideally a good stepping stone for those with ideas but may not have the direction or tools to execute it. Some major companies involved as well, you might even earn a job interview there.
