Poco may sound like a very cute name. It is in fact yet another of Xiaomi’s spinoff. The first device by the new brand, the Poco F1, packs the Snapdragon 845 and is dubbed the Master of Speed. That’s about the last thing that’s funny about the new Poco F1.

That’s because the performance it packs is nothing to laugh at. The Poco F1 is equipped with LiquidCool Technology to allow the Snapdragon 845 to run at optimum performance for longer. Poco compares their device against the OnePlus 6, showing the latter failing to maintain its Antutu scores after 6 runs. Yes, the score difference is very exaggerated but you get the point. The Poco F1 is designed to maintain performance over a longer period.

The Poco F1 will be offered with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The battery is a massive 4000 mAh, which should make most mobile gamers and heavy users out there more interested in this already very interesting device. If that isn’t enough, there is QuickCharge 3.0 support.

It is no slouch on the photography front either, with a 12MP + 5MP rear camera setup. The 12MP sensor here is the Sony IMX 363, a flagship sensor found in the latest flagships like the ASUS ZenFone 5z, Xiaomi Mi 8 and Mi MIX 2s. The front facing one is a 20MP one, complete with all the beautification features you will need. There is also real-time AI enhancements for the cameras, similar to what the Xiaomi Mi 8 features.

The Poco F1 comes with a 6.18″ FHD+ display with a notch. Interestingly, the rather wide notch is home to infrared emitter and sensor for facial recognition. For those who don’t want to use their face to unlock their device, there is a good ol’ fingerprint scanner on the back.

Developers will also be very happy with the Poco F1. Poco has announced there will be kernel sources for Poco available for the community. It runs MIUI for Poco, which is a customized variant of MIUI with POCO launcher. There is an app drawer, y’all. This ain’t your normal MIUI.

Speaking of the back, Poco brings back a once forgotten material — polycarbonate. The Poco F1 will be offered in Graphite Black, Steel Blue and Rosso Red. There will also be a special Armored Edition that features a Kevlar back.

Pricing? Prepare to be mindblown. The most affordable 6GB + 64GB variant starts from Rs. 20 999 (~RM1233). The 6GB + 128GB variant is priced at Rs. 23 999 (~RM1410), while the highest end 8GB + 256GB option is offered at Rs. 28 999 (~RM1703). Want a more premium feel? Get the Armored Edition which comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage for just Rs. 29 999 (~RM1762).

The Poco F1 will be up for sale on Flipkart in India on 29th August, while official launches will happen in Jakarta, Hong Kong and Paris on 27th August. Malaysia is confirmed to receive the device as well, but there is no concrete launch date yet.

Pokdepinion: Wow. If the Poco F1 hits Malaysia with that pricing, most mid-range and flagship device will suddenly become irrelevant.
