The Sony WH-1000XM6 wireless over-ear headphones is now available in Malaysia, with this sixth entry in the brand’s 1000X line introducing improved ANC, audio tuning, and various smart features. Notably, XM6 also brings the return of foldable hinges for compact storage, which was briefly absent in the preceding XM5 model.

One of the biggest upgrade found on the WH-1000XM6 is the new HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3 and a 12-microphone system (six on each side) that enables real-time environmental detection and adaptive noise suppression, plus improved clarity during calls, of course. This is coupled with a newly developed driver unit which Sony says is “optimally tuned for enhanced noise cancellation,” along with its Adaptive NC Optimiser to improve its noise filtering abilities.
Sony has also consulted with several Grammy-winning mastering engineers from Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering to help with the development of XM6 and its audio signature. On the hardware level, the headphones incorporate a carbon fiber composite material dome and a custom voice coil structure to improve response across all frequencies. If the sound profile doesn’t satisfy you from the get-go for whatever reason, the Sound Connect companion app allows you to apply custom EQ as you see fit.
Besides the usual high-resolution audio and codec support, the XM6 also includes new features, such as 360 Reality Audio Upmix for Cinema and Game EQ (developed with help from its INZONE gaming division) for enhanced audio experiences across content types. For battery, Sony claims the XM6 can deliver up to three hours of playback from a three-minute fast charge, with simultaneous listening and charging supported via USB – though we suggest bring your own cable, as the included one is just several centimeters long.
Besides the headphone itself, the included case has a small but convenient upgrade: it now uses magnetic attachment to close the case instead of the zippers of old, and it’s also smaller in size compared to predecessor thanks to XM6’s foldable design.
